ABOUT MYSTIC

BUILT FORSTILLNESS.

Fifty-four rooms, one valley, and a decade of thinking about what hospitality sounds like when it is quiet.

01 — OUR STORY

A DECADE,QUIETLY.

Mystic began as a land purchase with no plan: fourteen hectares of ridge, meadow and forest above the Verde Valley, bought in 2014 because the founder could not stop thinking about the silence. Three years of walking the land with architects followed before a single drawing was made.

The hotel that opened in 2021 was deliberately small — a series of low stone volumes that step with the contour, so the ridge remains the tallest thing on the ridge. Every subsequent decision has followed the same test: does this make the valley louder, or quieter?

Today Mystic runs at one staff member for every two guests, a kitchen that sources within sight of the dining room, and a spa with a rule nobody has broken: no clocks on the walls.

02 — ARCHITECTURE

THE LANDDRAWS FIRST.

Studio Arden’s design begins with a survey of silence: mapping where wind, water and the road are audible, and placing rooms where none of them are. The volumes use valley quartzite, larch and lime plaster — untreated, so they age into the hillside rather than against it.

03 — PHILOSOPHY

HOSPITALITY,AT LOW VOLUME.

We believe luxury is mostly subtraction. Fewer rooms, fewer sounds, fewer choices that matter less — so the ones that remain can be done properly. A guest should struggle to name the moment the service happened, because it never announced itself.

04 — SUSTAINABILITY

Lightly, or not at all.

Renewable Energy

The roof array and valley hydro supply 92% of annual demand; the remainder is certified Alpine hydro.

Local Sourcing

Seventy per cent of kitchen produce travels under forty kilometres; the rest of the story is in the menu notes.

Water Conservation

Spring water is gravity-fed, greywater irrigates the walled garden, and the pool is ozone-filtered at half the usual refill rate.

Waste Reduction

Kitchen to garden compost, a zero-single-use-plastic house policy since opening day.

Sustainable Materials

Valley larch, quartzite and lime plaster — materials that were here before us and will outlast us.

Community Support

One per cent of revenue funds the valley trail trust; forty of our fifty-two staff live within ten kilometres.
